And you do what the Holy Spirit says do. For it’s the gifts, nine gifts that’s in the Body, working in the Body everywhere. And the Body ought to be working together, tempered together. We get all the dross out, it would be that way too. Amen. All the difference…

67 As we know, there is local gifts, of nine gifts in the church. But there is offices of the hurch, and that, God, that’s predestinated, or foreordained, “God has set in the Church: apostles, then prophets, and teachers, pastors, evangelists,” and so forth, that’s God’s gifts set into the Church. Then there is nine spiritual gifts that operate in the local body, and of believers, and they must be checked by two or three judges before they’re to be given to the church, ’cause sometimes they could be wrong.
68 But notice these prophets, as they were born, like in… I believe, in Jeremiah here, God said, “Before you was even conceived in your mother’s womb, I ordained you a prophet over the nations.” You see? Moses was born a prophet. And John the Baptist, seven hundred and twelve years before he was born, “he was the voice of one crying in the wilderness,” Isaiah the prophet speaking of him. See, it’s not… These gifts are born gifts, God placing them in the Church.

E-11 Now, as a preacher, I’m not very much of a preacher. But the Lord has given a gift, a Divine gift. Which in the Scriptures we’re taught that gifts and callings are without repentance. That’s church gifts, not the church, the gifts in the local church which we’re to pray for, like First Corinthians 12. But there’s five ministering gifts which are–are the foreknowledge of God. And the first of those are apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists, and pastors. Those are Gods sent gifts to the church.
Apostles or missionaries… We call them “missionary” today. In the early day they called them “apostle.” Now, any one knows–knows that the word “apostle” means “one sent.” And the word “missionary” means “one sent.” So it’s both the same thing. Missionaries, prophets, teachers, evangelists, pastors.
Then in every local church there’s nine spiritual gifts should be operating in that church, if they’re a good praying congregation. And then the pastor who should be the head of the church with the wisdom of God to have that church set in order so no fanaticism, no nothing takes place wrong, just everything proven purely the Spirit of the Holy Ghost working among the people, then you got a real church that’s an example church to all the regions around about. It’s like a–a hive where the bees come, a lovely church.
And I pray that God will bless each one of these men here and give them, if they haven’t already got it, that type of church at the ending of the service. God bless you.

“Well,” you say, “I spoke in tongues.” I’ve seen devils speak in tongues. I’ve seen in Africa drink blood out of a human skull, and speak in tongues, and call on the devil. I’ve been in camps of witches and wizards where they spoke in tongues and interpret it. I’ve seen pencils lay on the table and write in unknown tongues, and the man come around and interpret it; it was true. Don’t tell me about tongues. We got too much of it now. Yet I believe that God has an unknown tongue. I believe that God speaks in unknown tongues, but don’t rely upon that. Paul said, “Though I speak with tongue of men and Angels and have not the Holy Ghost, I’m nothing yet. Though I can move mountains…”

247 Now, my brethren, while you’re getting your paper ready, can you understand now why? Now remember, you’ve all thought, and have been taught among you, not… (see, I’m speaking across the nation)… that I did not believe in speaking in tongues. I do believe in speaking in tongues, but you can still speak in tongues and not have the Holy Ghost. First Corinthians 13, says, “Though I speak with tongue of man and angels, I ain’t nothing yet.” See? That’s the anointing of the Holy Ghost, that has nothing to do with the soul inside you. You can speak in tongues and deny the Word. I’ve seen it done, and you see it too. See? A woman can preach the Gospel and… See? They can do all… They cut their hair, and still shout and speak in tongues and everything else. Uh-huh, that’s exactly right. You got to line up with the Truth of the Word.

185 And while we have our heads bowed. Is that person here would raise up your hand, say, “Brother Branham, I am thoroughly convinced that what you said is right. The world is falling apart, and we receive a Kingdom that cannot fall apart. And, as for me, I am not sure whether I’m in that Kingdom, or not.”
186 Don’t you rely upon whether you have had some kind of an emotional work-up. Don’t you rely upon whether you spoke in tongues. I believe in those things. Sure, I believe in speaking in tongues. But I’ve heard devils speak in tongues and give the interpretation to it, write in unknown tongues, witches, see. You can’t go by that.
187 But if the Life of Jesus Christ is in you, It’ll live Itself out, believing every Word of God. Because, He can’t deny Himself, He is the Word.
188 Now, if He is the Word, and He is in you, and then you say, “Well, Brother Branham, I tell you, I just can’t take That. I don’t believe This, these things are for this day,” and here It is promised for this day, oh, my brother, you’ve been deceived. Some spirit has got upon you and deceived you.

E-4 Now, I do know that gifts, such as the nine spiritual gifts; they are gifts that work in the entire church. For instance, tonight this one may prophesy and never prophesy again. Maybe the spirit of prophecy will be on someone else the next night. Paul said, “You all may prophesy, one by one.” That’s the gift of prophecy, not a prophet. See?
There’s quite a difference between gift of prophecy and a prophet. The gift of prophecy has to be judged by three good spiritual judges, before the church can receive it, according to Paul’s writing in Corinthians. The judges has to judge this, has to judge the interpretations of tongues, ‘fore the church receives it, because they wouldn’t know wh… But now, you take a person that would a prophet like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Moses. No one stood before them to judge whether it was right or not. They were borned in this world prophets. The Word of God was with them. “God, in sundry times and in divers manners, spoke to the Fathers through the prophets, in this last day through His Son, Jesus Christ.” And He is the Prophet of the Church of this last day is Jesus Christ. And the Bible said in, over in the Book of Revelations, that the spirit or the testimony of Jesus Christ is the spirit of prophecy.

1022-Q-292 292. Brother Branham, can Satan use a gift of tongues or prophecy in a person who has the Holy Ghost?
That’s a good one isn’t it? Yes, sir. If… It must be watched very, very close. If you’ll notice in I Corinthians 14:29, you who wants to put it down… See? The–the person who wrote this never signed their name; they just said, “God bless you.” See? In I Corinthians 14:29 we find out that any gift in the church has got to be judged first. See? You have to watch, ’cause evil spirits slip in. Because remember, the rain falls on the just and the unjust. The same rain that was sent to ripen the wheat also ripens the weed: the same water. How many knows that? Now, that ought to clear the serpent’s seed to you then, how that this son come. I’m trying to pick it out here to get it before my time runs out, but I can’t find it: so, how that son was about the serpent’s seed. See?
God has a law. Now, on this, in this law of the spirit of Life you have to watch, because Satan slips in.
And Paul, when something was revealed to somebody, it had to have at least two or three judges before it could be told before the church.

1194-28 Then if the Spirit should reveal something to another, or–or someone be filled with the Spirit to a place where they would speak with tongues, then this person should rise and give the message. And everyone must hold their peace until the interpretation comes.
When the interpretation comes, it must not be just quoting a Scripture, or–or something that has no meaning. It must be a message directed to the Church, or we think that it would be in the flesh; we see so much of that. And now, as I believe, the–the Spirit was to speak only for the edifying of the Church.

1195-30 And now, it would be a message something on this order, perhaps. Perhaps the people are gathering by this time, some sick people has come in. Perhaps there is a man laying, paralyzed or something. You’ve never seen him before. But when the interpretation would come, it would be something in this order; when the interpretation, or the one who has just spoke, would say, “Well, THUS SAITH THE LORD, the man who is in our midst has come from a certain-certain place,” and describe the place. And would say that, “He is paralyzed, because three or four years ago,” whatever it may, the case may be, “he did something evil,” like, “left his wife and children, and run off from them. And he fell from a truck,” or something like that order, “and has got hurt, and it’s paralyzed him. THUS SAITH THE LORD. If he will repent of that, and will promise to go to his wife and reconcile himself to her, then he shall be healed now and return to his family.”

1195-31 And then before anyone says anything, there must be at least two, or more, men or people in the building, who are spiritually solid in Gospel doctrine, who has a good discernment of spirit, shall rise up and say that it is of the Lord.
And if this thing doesn’t take place, then tongues should not be mentioned in the church. If the person speaks with tongues, Paul said, “If there be no interpreter,” and so forth, “let them speak at home,” or wherever they may be, “for they are only blessing themselves, and it’s not for edification of the Church.”

1195-33 And this person, after speaking, and the interpretation… And then two or three judges, according to Saint Paul’s doctrine of the Bible, that it must be judged by two or three judges.
Then let the person in whom it calls upon, to go. And maybe It might designate a certain person, or the pastor or someone, to go lay hands on this person, and that is sick or afflicted, and they will be healed. Then let the pastor or the other person, whoever it may be, that it was designated by the Holy Spirit to go pray the prayer of faith, let them go and minister to the person according to what the Spirit has said. Then at that time, the person upon… And whatever the Holy Spirit has said, it shall take place, immediately then, just as the Holy Spirit has give it.
And then the people could rejoice, and be thankful, and praise and worship God, ’cause God wants to be worshipped.

1196-36 Then they must, then they must bow their heads and be in prayer again, to see if there be another message that the Holy Spirit would want these gifts to manifest, before.
And then if any time that a person would speak in tongues, and interpret, and the–the judges would send the person to take, to do whatever it was said to be done, and it doesn’t come to pass, then the whole group of them shall go to the altar and there pray God to take that spirit away from them, because there is no one would want a spirit like that. We would know it would be false, and would be of the enemy and not of God, ’cause God can only tell truth. Let that be clearly understood by the church, before you start this, this new order.

E-56 And many of those people join those big classical things just to be popular. They know different. The spirit of life that works in the world would tell them that’s different, if they have any spark of life about them at all. They go after these fantastics of frogs jumping, and bugs a flying, shaking and jumping, and running, and everything, when they know that’s contrary. But they go with it because of the sensation.
I don’t care about sensations; I want THUS SAITH THE LORD. That’s right, what the Word says. Now, I believe in a heartfelt religion. I believe in the joy that I can know. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. I believe in Divine healing. I believe in all of the manifestations of the gifts, but they must be reverently placed in the body, working exactly in harmony with the Word.
WATCH THE WORD NOT THE GIFT

218 Yes, maybe prophesy contrary to the Word. But now, time he’s got this supernatural gift, he is so carried away by the noise, by the glamour of it. “Glory to God, I pray for So-and-so, they got up and walked away! Hallelujah, I can speak in tongues! And somebody interpret it, it’s genuine, the truth.”
219 Paul said, “I can speak in tongue like men and Angels, and yet be nothing. I can have faith to move mountains, and still am nothing.” Is that right? [Congregation says, "That's right."--Ed.]
220 But, see, he’ll offer you that. Oh, Pentecostal people, I love you, or I wouldn’t be with you. There is where you failed, see. Watch the Word, not the gift. Watch the giver, see where–see where it comes from, see. He’s all carried away, he’s dancing in the spirit, boy… [Blank.spot.on.tape--Ed.]… only thing. He’s got so many people around him, and everybody calling for him, here and there, and he forgets the Word.
SPIRITUAL GIFTS BEING MISUSED

E-30 Now, I believe that the Pentecostal church has all nine spiritual gifts operating in it, but it’s so mixed up. If we could only get quietened down, away from our differences and become one great united body, God would place those gifts exactly where they belong. Then you’d see miracles done, signs and wonders done. These gifts, like speaking with tongues, how we misuse that, just fly loose any time. Did you realize that that’s wrong? Certainly it is, but put it in its place and let it be used exactly the way God intended it to be, it’ll bring down the power and blessings of God. Out of place it’ll cause confusion, like Paul said, say aren’t you all crazy?” or so forth.

E-31 Healing is a marvelous thing. But if it’s misused, placed in the wrong position, then it becomes a reproach. All the other gifts are the same. And that’s what, through this week, I’ve been trying to tell you, my dear friends. It isn’t that I’ve been trying to be indifferent; it’s the things that I know, that these great things are not positionally placed where they should be placed. Explain to you, if everything was operating perfect in harmony with God, this great Pentecostal group would be one great, big Pentecostal church of the living God. That’s right. But the way we misuse… The gifts are here. But, as I said the other morning, we hold so much on speaking in tongues and interpretation.

E-32 Now, watch it. That’s the last and the least of the gifts. The first gift was wisdom; the second gift was knowledge. And what good is it going to do to have knowledge if you haven’t got wisdom to know how to take care of your knowledge? What good does it do to speak with tongues if you haven’t got wisdom to know when and how to place it? Same thing with healing, with any of the other gifts…
And that’s the reason we won’t listen; it’s just… I ain’t laying it onto the laity so much; I’m laying it onto the preachers. It’s just so confused with their organizations. If you’ve got an organization, that’s all right. I wish we had more organizations, and every church was it’s own organization, would be all right with me, as long as the unity of brotherhood and fellowship, to be amongst the people in one great big bubble of love. See where we miss it?
